Comforts of Home Program

Supporting families with kids at New Orleans area hospitals

red-squiggle

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Ronald McDonald Houses all over the world have adapted their programs to ensure we provide housing and support to families in a safe way, while protecting the families, staff and volunteers. This has meant scaling back many of our programs, like Meals from the Heart and our Comfort Cart, and placing limitations on the number of families we house to ensure that social distancing is possible.

However, at Ronald McDonald House New Orleans, we are dedicated to responding to crises with hope and a vision for the future and we are constantly looking for ways we can expand how we support families with sick kids.

How to Support Our Comforts from Home program

Please give us a call at (504) 486-6668 for more information on how you can help. Donations of food and gas gift cards in $20 increments, snack food items, toiletries, toys and small comfort items are needed.

The Comforts of Home Program provides various kinds of support to families with children receiving treatment at New Orleans area hospitals and medical facilities. These are families who might not be able to stay with us due to new housing restrictions or those we might not be able to accommodate because of limited space.

Through pediatric social workers and other medical partners, we connect with families who need help with:

  • gas money or travel vouchers for travel back and forth for their child’s medical appointments;
  • help with clothes or toiletries for parents staying at their child’s bedside;
  • gift cards for meals and snacks to help defray the cost of food; and
  • RMHC Comfort bags with toys, books and games for the patient to bring comfort and joy while they receive medical treatment.

This is our way of bringing the “comforts of home” and a little piece of the Ronald McDonald House to every sick child and family who needs it.
