Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana and Children’s Hospital Celebrate Groundbreaking to Expand Family Housing on Children’s Hospital Campus
July 28, 2021 – Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana and Children’s Hospital have broken ground on a $6 million project to renovate two buildings on the Children’s Hospital campus, creating a new family housing facility with 22 bedrooms with private bathrooms on the hospital campus. The jointly funded project will increase available accommodations for families by 47%, with an additional seven family guest rooms.
The new Ronald McDonald House will feature new common spaces, including a spacious kitchen and dining room that will allow for volunteers to help with preparing meals and other activities as well as a living room, playroom, lobby, conference room, library and office space for staff. RMHC-SLA provides a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children and provides programs that give comfort, compassion and family-centered care to children and their families.
“Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana keeps families close to each other and the medical care their child needs, by providing free accommodations for the family,” said Cheryl Egan, President of RMHC-SLA’s Board of Directors. “For a sick child, having family nearby is critical to the healing process. We are thrilled that the joint effort with Children’s Hospital will allow us to provide on-campus housing while increasing our impact for families traveling to our area for pediatric medical care.”
Construction will begin this summer with expected completion in late 2022. For more information, contact Jodi Lafranca, Community Engagement Manager for Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 504-486-6668.
