Despite the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of South Louisiana (RMHC-SLA) reports its annual Golf Classic held October 13 raised 30 percent more than 2019, thanks to the generosity of 35 sponsors. Children’s Hospital New Orleans, who is partnering with RMHC-SLA to relocate and expand its Ronald McDonald House New Orleans to its Uptown New Orleans campus in 2021, was the presenting sponsor for the third year.
“We were blown away by how our supporters really stepped up to ensure the success of this fundraiser, which is one of our larger events each year,” said Jill LeBlanc, Golf Classic chair. “Planning a socially distanced fundraiser was our number one priority, and Bayou Oaks Golf Course where we held it and our food and beverage vendors like Southerns, Port Orleans, Fat Boy’s Pizza and Dat Dog were so accommodating in working with us, as we moved everything outdoors.”
In addition to Children’s Hospital New Orleans, sponsors included: Valluzzo Companies, Whitman Family Foundation, associate sponsors; Carrigee Moore Levy & Flynn LLP, Martin Brower, McDonald’s Dallas Field Office, TFG Companies, gold sponsors; MacLaff, Inc., Walker Acura/Walker Volkswagen, hole in one sponsors; Assurance Financial, ball sponsor; Bowling Law Firm, Coca Cola, Didriksen Saucier & Woods, Eagan Insurance, McDonalds of St. Bernard, RTI, Safelite, Southwest Airlines, Storyville Productions, True Title, team sponsors; Adams Consulting Engineers, Douglas Cook Enterprises, ECS Southeast LLP, Ray & Cheryl Egan, Fat Boy’s Pizza, Hancock Whitney, Southerns, dinner sponsors; Himmel’s Architectural Door & Hardware, Craig Leonard, silver sponsors; Keurig Dr. Pepper, Port Orleans, tee sponsors; Jill LeBlanc, Maestri-Murrell, Paul Tuennerman, Elizabeth Wisner, cart sponsors.
Ronald McDonald House New Orleans is a ‘home away from home’ to out-of-town families of seriously ill or injured children needing medical treatment in the New Orleans area. It reopened in September and provides free accommodations, meals, transportation when needed, and support. During the pandemic, RMHC-SLA launched a “Comforts of Home” program to assist families of pediatric families at local hospitals needing some extra assistance.
