Family Housing expansion announced during 2019 Golf Classic Dinner
Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana and Children’s Hospital New Orleans announces family housing expansion and relocation during 2019 Golf Classic dinner.
Over 80 supporters, partners, volunteers and staff at the 2019 RMHC-SLA Golf Classic with presenting sponsor Children’s Hospital New Orleans celebrated the joint announcement with a champagne toast.
“It’s long been the vision of our Ronald McDonald House Charities to expand our services to support more families, providing programs that give comfort, compassion and care to sick children and their families,” said Tony Herques, RMHC-SLA board member. Together with Ben Whitworth, Assistant VP of Hospital Operations at Children’s Hospital, the two shared the news of the expansion and unveiled a rendering of the new house’s front entry, along with an aerial image of its location on the Children’s Hospital campus.
Upon completion of renovations to the new housing facilities, RMHC-SLA will relocate its current 15-bedroom home located at 4403 Canal Street to the new, 24-bedroom space, which nearly doubles the available accommodations for families with an additional nine family rooms.
Ronald McDonald House New Orleans will continue to support families at ALL nearby hospitals and medical facilities, such as Ochsner Baptist and Harch HBOT.
“We will continue to offer the same extraordinary service to families staying with us – free accommodations, free transportation, volunteer-provided meals cooked in our large kitchen, along with the addition of other amenities our families will be sure to enjoy,” said Herques. For Herques, a long-time supporter of RMHC-SLA who oversaw the current House’s repair and 2006 reopening following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, it’s wonderful to see the expansion and move to Children’s finally coming to fruition. Herques has been a McDonald owner/operator since 1996.
